Daffodils

"It can't be spring" the tulip said,

"It's winter still and nights are cold,

Stay safe and snug in your warm bed

And wait until the winter's old."

But fresh young bulbs of daffoldils

Who longed to grow and feel the sun,

Ignored the tulips'wisdom and

Burst forth to prove spring had begun.

"Oh, daffoldils !" the folk would say,

Surprised, and point and stare and smile.

"How lovely ! That has made my days !"

And all their efforts were worthwhile.
